Among the pieces of an art collection belonging to Count Dekamp, a widower with a baby girl just a few months old, a Rembrandt notebook is found and in its pages theres a portrait of a young woman at the gallows. Jan Dix is sure that he knows other versions of the same subject, created by the painter afterwards the dating of those drawings, and in the later works the same woman is alive. Past and present begin to interweave and a tragic relationship between mother and daughter becomes the driving force of a dramatic story...
