Zagor and Cico arrive in Veracruz together with Denise: she wants to free her father, the pirate Jean Lafitte, who’s been taken prisoner by the Mexicans on the charge of smuggling weapons to the rebels, while Zagor wants to locate Richter and Velasquez, who in their turn have come to Mexico in search of a city lost in the depths of the Yucatan jungle. Apparently, there’s an ancient treasure hidden in the rain forest, protected by an impenetrable swamp and by mysterious warriors who have resumed the use of human sacrifice. Now the warriors are preparing to unleash a revolt by the indigenous populations of southern Mexico.
