As he proceeds on the tracks of the mysterious warriors who have kidnapped Jean Lafitte, Zagor (together with Cico and Denise who have come along with him) discovers a city called Nuova Tenochtitlan, hidden in the swamps of the Yucatan Peninsula, whose inhabitants still live according to the habits of the ancient Aztecs. Cuitluhuac, the sovereign of the city, incited by the priest Izcalli, has resumed the custom of sacrificing human victims to the gods and wants to restore the Aztec empire by triggering a revolt of the nauhatl-speaking indios. For this reason, he’s stockpiling firearms that he’s acquiring with the aid of two English smugglers. Meanwhile, Richter and Velasquez, escorted by the band of Rojo the Mexican, are also making their way into the jungle…
