For Monsieur Saugrènes, finding an extremely rare copy of “Nikolaus’s tales” has truly been a most pleasant surprise, but as often happens in this world, it turns out to be rather short-lived and deceptive. For alas, there is someone who delights in transforming the fantasies of the sulphureous author into reality, concocting a game that soon proves to be far from innocent. Mysterious cafés, sinister houses, grotesque wax images packed into museums appear unexpectedly, only to disappear just as unpredictably, although not before whisking away some unlucky guy with them. And when even Saugrènes vanishes into thin air, Caleb makes arrangements for Harlan, Tesla and Kurjak to intervene...
