Venice, year 1630. The city is stormed by a plague epidemic, and thousands of sick people is taken to the island of the Lazzaretto, the leper house, to wait for an almost certain death. Venice again, year 2011. During an excavation in the Lazzaretto, an archaeologist finds a skeleton holding a casket. The perfectly preserved remains of an army of rats lay all around the dead body. When the archaeologist dies in unsettling circumstances, one of his students asks Martin Mystère for help, to release him from a nightmare that’s worrying him every single moment: the feeling – no, the certainty – that his every step is observed by hundred of tiny, and incredibly evil eyes.
