In the snowy city called Fort Niagara it's about to start the North American Quest, a sled race from the American town to Croix de Quebec, on the banks of Saint Lawrence River. The prize of 5000 $ is coveted by the many racers who gather at the start with their dog packs. Meanwhile, in a mysterious outpost a few miles from Fort Niagara, where the military are testing new lethal arms, a traitor steals the only existing prototype of a powerful weapon, capable to erase human life from a whole continent. He aims to sell it to the elusive Kurtz, a spy who came from Europe just on this purpose. Zagor is tracking down the dangerous secret agent and upon arriving in Fort Niagara, the Spirit-with-the-Hatchet realizes the prototype has been concealed inside one of the racing sleds. He'll have to get the secret weapon back and destroy it before either it can fall in Kurtz's hands, or in the Army's, ready to resume its lethal testing. It's the beginning of a no-holds barred fight to the death, on the long icy road where the big race takes place...
