Haring, the rotten swine who did the witch-doctor Nana’s dirty work for him, expires in a sordid hotel room, with a blade in his ribs! Some time afterwards, in Saint Louis, the pards save a poor wretch from a dagger in the hands of three blacks: the wretch is Tom Hogan, a fur merchant who has left Mr Jackson’s Rocky Mountains Company to set up the Missouri Fur Company, taking the best trappers with him. And now the hide Jackson wants more than any other is that of his cumbersome rival! The rangers, grateful that Hogan helped their friend Pat Mac Ryan at a difficult time, take the case to heart…
