Long ago on a planet called Keram, the Venerables waged the final battle against the Shra but were defeated. In 2099, Aron, head of the sect which guards the ha-rash - the reliquaries enclosing the souls on which the Venerables feed - tries to persuade Nathan to help him awaken the last of the Venerables who is sleeping in a secret base under the Antarctic.
