Cuitluhuac, the current sovereign of Nuova Tenochtitlan, instigated by the priest Izcalli, continues his attempt to restore the Aztec empire by triggering a revolt of Nahuatl-speaking indios, thanks to the guns procured for him by two unscrupulous Englishmen. General Maxtli is against the king’s plans, but Cuitluhuac sentences him to death for fear he might organize a rebellion; luckily Xinzin, Maxtli’s wife, succeeds in contriving an ingenious way of setting him free. Meanwhile Zagor and Cico have crept into one of the palatial buildings to rescue Jean Lafitte, who’s being held prisoner by the Aztecs, but then they themselves get captured, whereas Denise manages to escape. In the meantime, Richter and Velasquez, escorted by the men under the command of Rojo the Mexican, are about to enter into the city in search of a mysterious object whose origin has something to do with Atlantis…
