In Fort Stockton, Tex and Carson receive the assignment to investigate the arms traffic between comancheros and Indians from Colonel Patterman. A Comanche implicated in the affair is allowed to escape and the pards pursue him. The Native American realizes that he is being followed and is killed by Carson but the rangers grab his contact, the comanchero Sid Ketchum, and make him squeal. At the bottom of everything is the information gathered by Will Kinkaid, Sid’s partner, concerning an old load of southern carabines sunk in the river during the Civil War.
