The pards hunt down the kidnappers of young Felipe Elgin and catch one of them, making him squeal: the thief “Santa Klaus” had taken part in the mail wagon robbery to pay for his grandson, Elgin’s, schooling and then, mortally injured, had hidden the booty. With Felipe freed at the old San Antonio mission, the mysterious message, originally addressed to Ted McIntire (the Las Cruces marshal killed by the bandits), is finally deciphered: a Bible verse leads to the bundle’s hiding place and the reward for the recovery, as his grandfather had requested, belongs to Felipe!
