One of Tex's closest friends, colonel Jim Brandon, has been caught into a foul plot: expelled from the North West Mounted Police, he has been degraded and sentenced to forced labour, beyond the walls of a fort on the rivers of Athabasca Lake. Gros-Jean carries the bad news to Tex, and the Ranger and his pards quickly take the path to Canada. Jim's name has to be cleared and the wheels behind the obscure machination must be found and stopped! But, first of all, Tex wants to reach his friend and free him from the labour camp...
