Having escaped from “Cobra” Galindez thanks to Cochise’s Apaches, while the desperados transfer the gold to Maldonado’s mine, Tex and Carson clash with the citizens of Douglas, attracted by the rewards pending on the rangers’ heads, after the infamous Captain Baker had accused them of the slaughter of the soldiers carried out by the Mexican bandits. The pards contact their friend, General Davis, to be able to prove their innocence and ally themselves with the rurales to recover the bars but, when they arrive at the mine, they discover that Galindez had betrayed his companions, replacing the gold with a pile of stones!
