A vision, a mirage, a ghost… and yet, Madame de Thebe, who appears to Tex and Kit Carson in the New Mexico desert, seems real! The Egyptian fortune-teller, who traveled with all of her possessions on a wagon accompanied by her faithful servant Alì, had been betrayed some time earlier by her guide: the infamous Tom Paxton had had the two of them swallowed up by quicksand in order to rob them! The woman, known as the Queen of Spades, had cursed her executioner, showing him the ring of Anubi. Today, Madame de Thebe, or her ghost, entrusts the jewel to Tex, entrusting him with taking a death message to Paxton.
