Recollections from Tex’s past continue with the story of the inferno that broke out in Union City: collapsed bridges, torn up tracks, blown up water reservoirs, interrupted telegraph lines, the entire city on fire! Tex and “Damned” Dick’s acts of guerilla warfare and sabotage against the Southerners followed one another without rest, until the impossible capture of Fort Henry. But war’s tragic face reveals itself since, in the Shiloh saraband, the two pards encountered a friend on the hostile front, who died in their arms on the battlefield… while a red sunset stained everything the color of blood.
