The agent of the American Fur Company sent to trade along the shores of the mysterious and eerie Darkness River in faraway Oregon suddenly disappears; along with him, also “Beau” Wyndham, one of the Spirit-with-the-Hatchet’s old friends, has vanished.

An enigmatic shaman, claiming to have been sent by Manito to unite the Indian Nation, gathers an increasing number of fanatical followers around him.

Zagor and Cico, who joined the rescue expedition for Wyndham, descend the Darkness River on an old boat and increasingly venture into the primordial shadows of that wild and unexplored frontier…
