Sent on a mission by Colonel Douglas, Tex and Carson reach Two Bears’ village, where they find the missing Dr Weisber, who’s treating the Natives. Ready to go back to Washington, the three men must first quell the tribe’s anger, which has been stoked by the mysterious deaths of some of their members. The conflict between the Indians and the lumberjacks hired by Mr Stroller, the true culprits of the murders, threatens to ignite a bloody war. Only Tex’s ability can pacify the situation.

The massacres of the settlers in the South-Western territories are the handiwork of General Contreras, a fierce "caudillo" who dreams of reclaiming the land lost by Mexico in 1846 to establish his absolute rule. That, at least, is what Senator Davis tells Tex and Carson. The politician is determined to thwart Contreras’ bloody bid. But there’s something else at stake: a train laden with gold and guns that Contreras covets to fund the continuation of his war. Tex and Carson need to seize it covertly, as an official American mission would trigger a massive diplomatic and military confrontation with Mexico.
