Brett MacDonald has grown up, and now it's his turn to choose his own path. Accompanied by Abele at his father's request, Brett travels to Arkansas to visit Belinda Hall and remind her of an old promise: in due time, she would help him enter the military academy. The Indian Wars are over, and being a soldier is now just another profession. But in the Southern states, tensions run high, and serious trouble awaits the two friends.
