Ranger Burt Keller has been shot dead in an alleyway of Elk city during an investigation: Tex Willer, who was a friend of his, has to discover the motive and the perpetrator of the murder. Under the false name of Ted Hawkins, Tex enlists in the patrol that escorts Central Mining’s loads of silver during transportation from the mine, and it isn’t long before he disposes of the ferocious gang of looters that regularly assaulted the mining company’s wagons: a bunch of miscreants that sheltered behind the respectable façade of Rigby Ranch. And in a saloon, the scene of the final duel with the gang leader, Tex finds unexpected help in the form of a dancer who is no spring chicken.
