Tex persuades Judge Roy Bean to release Carson. But the two rangers’ troubles have just begun: Chris Carter, a greedy breeder who behaves like a tyrant all along the Pecos, is in cahoots with Ribeira and Huerta, Mexican elders to whom he must supply cases of Spencer rifles destined for the antigovernment guerilla warfare. This is what the pards learn from Fisher, whose ranch is the object of extortion by Carter’s cowboys. Meanwhile, Fisher’s untrustworthy supervisor, the bearded Klondell, meditates revenge: Tex, having surprised him while he was molesting Miss Delly, Fisher’s daughter, had kicked him out roughly, and now the criminal has decided to get revenge.
