A prophecy had predicted to Zhenda that two human sacrifices would be necessary for Sagua to be able to proclaim himself sachem. A correct prediction: but things don’t go as foreseen by the witch! Months later, Tex and Carson risk drowning in the Mississippi: it’s all the fault of the hired ruffians of Jean Larousse, a gambler with a thousand identities who tries to steal Lafitte’s treasure map from Bill and Laura Dawson, the legitimate owners.
