The Hopis, subdued by the hooded Children of the White Buffalo, worship a stuffed ruminant that pours alcohol from its muzzle, demanding in exchange the gold that the Indians must pan from a stream. Those who rebel, like the squaw, Mahena, risk death! Tex discovers that it is all a fabrication staged by the witch doctor, Talikay, and by white scoundrels. Having left Buffalo Valley, the pards find the remains of an assault on a stagecoach in the Painted Desert: Sam Totter, wrongly accused of the massacre and of the disappearance of the gold transported, of which he gappens to be the owner, risks hanging.

In this issue: the preceding adventure extends from page 3 to page 120; from page 120 to page 152, “Traccia tragica”; from page 152 to page 162, first part of “Il feticcio tragico”, a non-Tex story with Bonelli as script-writer and artwork by Vittorio Coliva; from page 3 to page 77, artwork by Aurelio Galleppini and Francesco Gamba.
