Tex reaches Agua Fria, with his head almost smashed in by Sheriff Lonnegan’s thugs, and he sees a macabre fruit hanging from a withered tree: they have hung young Andy Wilson, unjustly accused of murder, killed by the ruthless law of the Judge Maddox, called “Hangman”! The despicable Sheriff is the first to bite the dust, swiftly followed by his boss, who had made violence his personal code of life. In the meantime, someone who talks and dresses like Tex is robbing banks and ranches around Gallup: the terrible Proteus has returned!
