Bert Adams, Goldfield’s accomplice in the sordid affair of the plundered convoys, is saved from the horrid death Kento had in store for him, and the way he shows his gratitude is by attempting to shoot his rescuers, Tex and Tiger Jack! A lance in his back cuts his criminal career short. Much later, after having unmasked Clayton, the treacherous postilion, the pards join up the Quakers’ Conestoga wagons with those of the “gentiles” in an enormous convoy, so they will be better able to defend themselves against any further attacks by the Cheyennes.
