The ex boxer Larry “Brutus” Powell, a giant with a heart of gold, is unjustly accused of the murder of Felicia Kerry, a young drifter who has gone completely off the rails. Mickey Walls, the ex trainer of Brutus, hires Nathan Never to get himself acquitted; but proving his innocence means striking a hard blow to the promising career of Judge Nicholas Dewey and to his protégée Debra Stone. The two must therefore silence the true culprit before Nathan finds him.
