The mayor, Hoenzoller’s press attaché, John Bancroft, is killed during a meeting with three prostitutes. Nathan Never is given the job of throwing some light on the murder and he tracks down two of the girls, Esperia and Egle (the third, Erizia, has been killed by Bancroft). Traces of blood modified by a rare virus and found at the scene of the crime lead to Althea Forrester, who however is beyond suspicion. But then someone tries to kill her as well, under orders from the oversize criminal Kaspar Krager…
