General Washington’s plans for the spring campaign have fallen into the hands of the English and the Viscount of Thanet is the man who has been entrusted with delivering them to the high command. Mark’s finely woven net is closing in, but the encounter with the throat-cutter Demetrios could end up being fatal for him and for the outcome of the whole conflict... What a fine pair of scoundrels the gypsy Sandor and his sister Xenia are! But Fate shuffles the cards again with a bizarre sense of humour, so that depriving Mark of his clothes is not exactly the best brainwave that Sandor could have had. And even though he eventually manages to disclose to the English the secret of Carruthers, the traitor, the false patriot who had even sold Commander Mark to the enemy can hardly be said to have drawn benefit from his actions!
