Mister Crossbow is not only a dishonest merchant, but together with his gang, he bosses the whole district around, there in Louisiana. He extorts money from everybody, planters, merchants and slaves, and there is no crime he would shrink at. And yet, he has committed two mistakes that prove to be fatal to him: cheating Mark and kidnapping Betty. And anyway, the days of terror have come to an end. The hatred that Crossbow has spread all around him and the scorn he has always shown towards others are going to boomerang on him. The slaves have risen up and, guided by Mark, they are no longer afraid to challenge their tyrants by looking them straight in the eye.
