It is a queer clock that the man with a check jacket is carrying: instead of simply indicating the time, it could even indicate the end of the hopes for the Ontario patriots. Mark faces that man and recovers the documents hidden in the clock, but the most important thing is to defeat the entire network of English spies. Easy to say, difficult to do, since the man with a check jacket has died before unveiling his secrets... A bullet shot from behind the shoulders is not enough to kill Commander Mark. But then, whose corpse are the English exhibiting so proudly carrying it around in triumph as if it was that of the legendary leader of the rebels? And why does the ballad-singer in the inn keep making mistakes in the linesof his songs?
