What happened in Nuova Sulina, a peaceful community of settlers from faraway Europe who built their homes in the swampy bayou in the Mississipi delta? Their houses have been abandoned and a caravan of new immigrants on their way to join those who’d already settled in the area find signs of horror, death and destruction all around, and not a trace of the missing inhabitants. But there’s something disturbing hovering in the air, and when Zagor - who’s traveling towards New Orleans with Cico on the tracks of Velasquez - arrives in the bayou, he too senses obscure presences lying in wait among the Delta creeks as he sets about trying to solve the mystery. Meanwhile, the legend of an expedition by the Conquistadores is stirred in someone’s memory: the Conquistadores were exterminated by the indians right there, right on the spot where Nuova Sulina was built. This prompts a warning: never should the living disturb the sleep of the dead!
