Satko, Zagor and Chico’s Cherokee friend (who has become a lawyer, married Linda and had a son, Skipper), needs help. A shady speculator, Wertmann, is having the forest cleared of trees: it would be the end for the Cherokees. Furthermore, among Wertmann’s men is Timber Bill, an old enemy of Zagor’s. The Spirit with the Hatchet investigates, but is arrested!
