The dastardly don Pedro Cortez, who masterminded the fake kidnapping of Manuela Montoya, is put to shame by the pards before the very eyes of his beloved: he cuts such a sorry figure that he has no other option than to flee! The next fall, Tex and Carson arrive at the Santa Cruz mission in search of the missing Padre Matías, who had traveled to the mission a year before with the Cardenas brothers to unearth a fabulous treasure that would relieve the desperate plight of the wretched pueblito of San Domingo. But the greedy Cardenas brothers had killed him! Appearing to Tex in a dream, the soul of the priest reveals his tragedy…
