Having stolen into the terrible camp in Anderville, where the confederates concentrated the Yankee prisoners, Tex helps the officer, John Walcott, escape, hiding him on the wagon that takes away the corpses. John was supposed to reveal where the gold that he believed he had filched from the confederates was hidden, but says he knows nothing about it. And the mystery remains such: the confederate cousin, Leslie, is killed by unknown people and John, suspected by Tex of the murder, blows up on a grenade! Years later, when the politician, Howard Walcott, summons Tex to Richmond, the incredible truth about the end of his grandchildren, John and Leslie, finally comes out.
