Ely Donehogawa, an Iroquois Indian, has been appointed Commissioner of Indian Affairs. Ken Parker travels to Washington to speak with him about a pressing issue: silver and zinc have been discovered in the Dakota reservation of Fort Smith, and an agent is needed to protect the interests of the Native people. The Commissioner decides to bring the matter before Congress, using Ken as a direct witness. The intervention will be brief and dramatic—just before a terrible murder takes place…
